The NEPSE stock market index has registered a decline exceeding 1 percent. During the initial trading session of the week on Sunday, the NEPSE market index concluded at 2011.22 points, reflecting a drop from its prior value of 21.91  points. This equates to a 1.07 percent decrease when compared to the preceding Thursday.

 

Furthermore, investors faced additional disappointment as the majority of banks raised their deposit interest rates, effective starting from the 1st of Bhadra (Approx, 17 August) . After experiencing a decline for three consecutive days, NEPSE, which had shown signs of recovery the previous Thursday, also witnessed a downturn on Sunday.

On Sunday, NEPSE, which is Nepal's stock market, had a bad day. All sectors in the market went down, and the main index, NEPSE, also went down. The part of the market that includes hydropower companies saw the biggest drop, losing 2.34 percent of its value. The hotel and tourism companies also had a tough day, with their part of the market going down by 1.85 percent. Even the banking sector didn't do well, losing 0.28 percent.

Not only did the stock market go down, but the amount of trading happening also went down. Until last Wednesday, there was a lot of trading, about 2 billion rupees worth. But starting from last Thursday, the amount of trading dropped below 2 billion rupees. On Wednesday, it was 1.67 billion rupees, and on Thursday, it went down even more to 1.52 billion rupees. On Sunday, it was even lower at 1.44 billion rupees.

On Sunday, within Nepal's stock market, NEPSE, there were a total of 43,346 transactions involving 4,459,459 shares of listed securities. During this bearish market, IME Life Insurance had the highest trading volume at NPR 66.3 million, followed by Himalayan Distillery with NPR 46.4 million, and Jeevan Vikas Microfinance with NPR 45.3 million in trading.

On Sunday, NEPSE saw activity from 269 companies' shares. Among these, 190 companies witnessed a drop in their share prices, 29 companies saw an increase, while 8 companies remained steady. Forward Microfinance recorded the highest percentage increase in share price at 4.57 percent during Sunday's trading, with RSDC Microfinance following closely with a 4 percent increase, and Sanima Large Cap Fund experiencing a 3.97 percent decline.

Furthermore, the unit price of Agricultural Development Bank Debenture for the year 2083 fell by 10.00 percent, while Upper Syange Hydropower's unit price decreased by 9.02 percent. Similarly, Siddhartha Investment Growth Scheme 2 registered an 8.45 percent decrease, and Global IME Laghubitta's share price dipped by 7.31 percent.

To sum it up, Sunday's NEPSE trading day was predominantly marked by declining share prices for most companies, though there were a few exceptions like Forward Microfinance. Additionally, certain bonds and investment schemes also observed reductions in their unit prices.
